SpaceHubs Africa partners with PRAGSAC
The Promoting Radio Astronomy in Ghana through School visits and astronomy Clubs (PRAGSAC) project aims to promote astronomy education in schools in Ghana.
Spacehubs Africa and PRAGSAC (Promoting Radio Astronomy in Ghana through School Visits and Astronomy Clubs) are partnering to advance education and research in astronomy and space science within Ghana.
As part of this collaboration, Spacehubs Africa has funded the development of a 2.4-metre parabolic dish for the PRAGSAC AstroPhy project. This dish, formerly a telecommunications satellite antenna, has been repurposed into a state-of-the-art radio and space science antenna.
The project “AstroPhy Ghana” aims to construct a small parabolic dish antenna (radio telescope) as a proof of concept and for training purposes, offering valuable learning opportunities to participants interested in astronomy, space science, and data science. This project fosters practical skills, scientific curiosity, and collaboration within underexplored fields that can contribute to addressing socio-economic challenges related to poverty, hunger, and illegal mining activities in Ghana.
The transformation of this dish represents a significant milestone in fostering a culture of scientific curiosity and exploration within Ghana. By providing resources for training and skill development in astronomy, Spacehubs Africa and PRAGSAC are paving the way for future generations of astronomers, scientists, and space enthusiasts.
